FAIRFAX TOWN COUNCIL MEETING

STAFF REPORT
AGENDA ITEM #3
MEETING DATE January 12, 2026
PREPARED FOR Mayor and Town Council
PREPARED BY Christine Foster, Deputy Town Clerk
SUBJECT Discuss and Consider Town Council Boards and Committee Assignments for 2026.

RECOMMENDATION
Review Council Board & Committee assignments and make changes as appropriate.

DISCUSSION
Each year the Council reviews their assignments to represent the Town on numerous boards, committees, and joint powers authorities. The Council typically discusses the current assignments and possible changes to or elimination of assignments.

There are no adopted policies on the process of assigning Councilmembers to committees. In the past, the Council has balanced the needs of the committees with the experience and/or interest of individual Councilmembers. While Councilmembers are not required to give up or rotate assignments, they usually try to ensure that all Councilmembers have opportunities, at some point in their terms, to be the primary or alternate representative to outside agencies (e.g., Ross Valley Fire Department Board, Transportation Authority of Marin).

A draft list of assignments for 2026 has been prepared, adjusted to reflect Mayor Hellman and Vice Mayor Egger for those assignments particular to the offices of Mayor and Vice Mayor.
