Proclamation in Recognition of
OLDER AMERICANS’ MONTH
WHEREAS, Older Americans Month is observed nationally each May to recognize the contributions of older Americans to our families, communities, and nation; and WHEREAS, 21% of the Town of Fairfax’s population is 65 years and older and the median age is 47.9 years, underscoring the importance of planning for an age-friendly community where older adults can remain active, engaged, and supported; and WHEREAS, older adults in the Town of Fairfax enrich our community through their experience, wisdom, volunteerism, knowledge, and ongoing participation in civic life; and
WHEREAS, this month provides an important opportunity to highlight older adults and the resources, programs, and services that support healthy aging, independence, and that challenge stereotypes and discrimination based on age; and WHEREAS, the 2026 theme for Older Americans Month is “Champion Your Health,” which emphasizes prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as foundations for healthy aging; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Fairfax values all generations and is committed to fostering an inclusive community where older residents thrive and people of all ages can learn from and support one another;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Fairfax, California, that the month of May 2026 is hereby proclaimed as Older Americans Month in the Town of Fairfax. We encourage all residents to join in recognizing and celebrating the achievements, contributions, and needs of our older citizens, and to take part in activities that build respect, connection, and support across generations.
