Whereas, the observance has continued to evolve to reflect the rich diversity of the communities it honors, and in 2021 was formally expanded to Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month to recognize Native Hawaiians’ unique cultural identity and heritage; and
Whereas, the Town of Fairfax acknowledges and celebrates the enduring contributions of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) individuals and communities to the cultural, economic, civic, and artistic vitality of Marin County and the broader San Francisco Bay Area; and
Whereas, the 2026 national theme, “Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together,” as established by the Federal Asian Pacific American Council, highlights the importance of collaboration, mutual respect, and collective resilience in building inclusive and thriving communities; and Whereas, the Town of Fairfax is committed to fostering an environment of respect, inclusion, and understanding, and recognizes the importance of honoring the histories, traditions, and experiences of AANHPI communities, including both their achievements and the challenges they have faced; and Whereas, the Town further affirms the value of community education and cultural celebration as a means to promote equity, strengthen relationships, and deepen appreciation for the diverse voices that enrich our community; AGENDA ITEM 4.l
