"As a volunteer who has dedicated over 20 years of my life to helping the feral cat population, I am deeply concerned about the horrendous cat overpopulation in the city of Fairfield.
There are many caring people and non-profit organizations, and rescue groups that have been working tirelessly to address the issue and find solutions for the lack of low cost spay and neuter services for cats in the city of Fairfield.
Volunteers are driving cats to several different counties to every month to get services because there are no low cost spay/neuter services in Solano County.
The city of Fairfield pays Solano County $856,000 per year for animal services, with little to no return on investment. There is no public spay/neuter for pets, and only 2 days a week TNR appointments for ferals. That's not enough to address the cat overpopulation issue in the city of Fairfield, let alone, all of Solano County. We need to invest in low cost spay/neuter services.
The MOU with city of Fairfield has with Solano County is 10 years old and completely outdated, and does not address the issues of cat overpopulation, or Solano County Animal Services" aggressive policy changes in regards to how cats needing help are treated. The burden of care has been dumped on the public to deal with it, while Solano County fails to provide services for people to do so.
I'm asking the Fairfield City Council to revist the MOU and get this as an agenda item at a future meeting."
Respectfully,
Michelle Bartlett
