Dear Mayor Moy, Vice Mayor Bertani, and Members of the Fairfield City Council;
I write to support the new mulƟ-family housing complex, Green Valley 3, developed by The Spanos CorporaƟon. Our naƟon is experiencing a naƟonal housing crisis with experts esƟmaƟng that the U.S. must add roughly 4 million housing units to address current needs. Since the advent of the Great Recession, the U.S. has been under-building housing units. That consƟtutes a 15-year lag in the development of housing units and has contributed to record elevaƟons in housing costs. For example, in July, housing costs accounted for over 90 percent of the increase in the Consumer Price Index.
California has one of the naƟon’s highest housing costs, primarily because of inadequate housing supply.
Ensuring that communiƟes like Fairfield have sufficient housing supply to meet the needs of residents includes building quality apartment units as well as units for purchase. This mix is criƟcal to ensure a robust housing ecosystem.
Research also shows that for jurisdicƟons to aƩract new business and maintain a thriving economy effecƟvely, they must have criƟcal resources, like adequate housing and other ameni Ɵes, to meet the needs of employees.
The 185 units that will be built due to the Green Valley 3 mulƟ-family complex will benefit the Fairfield community by adding much-needed housing stock to a region in dire need of these units. It will also help make the region aƩracƟve to businesses.
The NaƟonal Fair Housing Alliance is a consorƟum of local and regional fair housing organizaƟons working to ensure housing security for all Americans. With 22 members situated throughout the state of California, we are supporƟve of efforts to expand more affordable, quality housing opportuni Ɵes in the state. In order to fulfill our mission, we rely on partnerships like the one we have with AG Spanos. We are proud to have partnered with AG Spanos to promote and advance fair housing opportuni Ɵes for people naƟonwide for over 20 years.
