Dear Members of the Fairfield City Council,

I trust this email finds you well. I am wriƟng on behalf of the Rolling Hills Neighborhood community to bring to your aƩenƟon a maƩer of significant importance to us. We are deeply concerned about recent discussions pertaining to the peafowl in our neighborhood, and the implicaƟons these discussions may have on the unique character and harmony of our area.

It has come to our aƩenƟon that a recent meeƟng held on July 18th addressed peafowl‐related issues, of which many members of our neighborhood were not made aware. This lack of comprehensive noƟficaƟon has leŌ a substanƟal porƟon of our community uninformed and unable to parƟcipate in discussions that directly affect us. We feel that the input of only a few individuals, who are discontent with the peafowl, should not be the sole basis for any decisions that may impact our neighborhood's idenƟty and atmosphere.

The peafowl have been an integral part of our community for decades, and their presence is intertwined with the legacy of our neighborhood. The generous donaƟon of the Dunnell ranch, along with provisions for the peafowl, further emphasizes their significance. For many of us, these birds are not merely wildlife; they are an emblem of the natural beauty that makes our area disƟncƟve. Countless families, including ours, have chosen to reside here because of the unique charm that the peafowl bring to our lives.

Furthermore, it is essenƟal to recognize that the peafowl coexist harmoniously with our community. They have not posed harm or disrupƟon, as evidenced by the experiences of long‐standing residents and our personal observaƟons during nightly walks. Moreover, our recent efforts to engage with the community, including both the Rolling Hills Neighborhood and members of the Flower Streets, have yielded overwhelmingly posiƟve responses. This support underscores the collecƟve senƟment that the peafowl are a valued and cherished aspect of our neighborhood(s).

We kindly urge the City Council to consider the diverse perspecƟves of all residents who live amongst the peafowl before arriving at any decisions. We  respecƞully request that you acknowledge the strong community senƟment in favor of the peafowl's presence and take into account the well‐being and shared experiences that they represent.

Thank you for your aƩenƟon to this maƩer. We are hopeful that our voices will be heard, and that we can collecƟvely contribute to preserving the unique essence of our neighborhood for generaƟons to come.

Sincerely,

Alix Pate
