Thank You statement for Native American Heritage Month Resolutions November 7th ,2023
Thank you. The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation appreciates the recognition of both Native American Heritage Month and the acknowledgment that we are standing on traditional Patwin lands.
Native American Heritage Month was established to celebrate the diverse cultures, traditions and histories of Native American peoples across the Country, and to acknowledge their significant contributions to the present day lives of all citizens. ' Like most indigenous people throughout the United States, the Patwin people were forced off their ancestral lands and onto reservations and rancherias where they currently reside, as citizens of three sovereign, federally recognized tribal governments.
Today, Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation is pleased to have a strong relationship with the City of Fairfield, and we believe that celebrating Native American Heritage Month is an opportunity to enhance understanding of California Native Tribes and the Patwin people in particular.
Again, thank you for proclaiming November as Native American Heritage Month in City of Fairfield and for fostering education and cooperation with Native peoples, not just at this time but throughout the year. We look forward to continuing to build cooperation and encourage social and economic activities within the City of Fairfield that promote the health and well-being of our citizens for the future.
