PRESENTATIONS
Budget Update by Director of Finance John Furtado and Assistant City Manager Savita Chaudhary.
Each department head spoke about reductions they have made to their budgets so far and discussed options for further cuts to achieve target amounts. Possible revenue measures were discussed such as Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT), business license fees (which have not been increased in years) and user fee studies. Council agreed that business license fees need to be increased and that TOT should be increased to 12% from 10%.
Council recommended to staff to use Model 1C-X (Modified Gross Receipt Scale) for the business license tax and bring back information and dollar amounts to the next budget study session to be held on April 9, 2024. Decisions will be made at that meeting regarding adding revenue measures to the November General Election ballot.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
