DISCUSSION
In early 2023, the City of Fairfield, along with contracted consultant WRT, launched the Parks, Recreation, Open Space Master Plan initiative. Through a series of internal and s takeholder meetings, a comprehensive community engagement campaign, and several community workshops, a variety of data and feedback has been gathered which will be used in creating a comprehensive plan surrounding Fairfield’s parks and recreational program ming and park development. The Plan serves as a guide for how the city will improve, expand, repurpose, prioritize, maintain, staff, and fund Fairfield’s Park assets and recreational opportunities.
At the May 7, 2024, City Council meeting, staff presented an overview of the preliminary findings, including the key issues, themes and ideas, and park concepts developed over the previous 14 months. The council received a hardcopy summary with the option to engage in an independent interactive review and to submit responses and comments back to staff. At the June 4, 2024, City Council meeting , staff presented information regarding the full cost of operation, including current and needed levels of service. Staff also reviewed feedback results from the council’ s
