STATEMENT OF ISSUE
The proposed resolution lists all of the proposed City-sponsored (Sponsored) and City Signature (Signature) Special Events for the 2025 calendar year.
DISCUSSION
On January 21, 2014, the City Council adopted Ordinance 2013 -25 amending the Fairfield Municipal Code to include Chapter 12A Special Events. The ordinance provides a comprehensive program to regulate special events in the City of Fairfield.
On March 21, 2023, the council adopted Ordinance 2023 -06 amending the Fairfield Municipal Code to allow the council to designate additional C ity-sponsored events by resolution adopted no later than 90 days prior to the event.
Section 12A.4 states that the council may designate additional Sponsored events. To provide the council with the opportunity to modify the list of Sponsored events, staf f proposes an annual comprehensive Sponsored events schedule for the council’s review and approval. For the 2025 calendar year, the staff is proposing the attached Special Event List. The list distinguishes Sponsored events from Signature events. Sponsored events are organized, hosted, and run entirely by an outside entity or by an outside entity with City partnership. Signature events are organized, hosted, and run entirely by the City. Both approved Sponsored and Signature events
will require the event organizer to submit a complete application, as set forth in Section 12.A.6, but shall be exempt from paying the Special Event Permit application fees. Sponsored and Signature events are not exempt from other legal or regulatory requirements, including but no t limited to other required permits from City Departments.
