RECOMMENDED ACTION
Approve park naming honoring former councilmember Robbieburr Berger.

STATEMENT OF ISSUE
The City Council is being asked to approve the Honors Committee's recommendation to name a new park (facility) in remembrance of Robbieburr Berger, Fairfield’s first female Councilmember.

DISCUSSION
In 1972, Robbieburr Berger made history as Fairfield’s first female City Councilmember. On April 20, 2021, City staff brought forward a minute action to City Council recommending the naming of future streets in honor of former Councilmember Robbieburr Berger and several other past councilmembers. While the action was approved, no new street -naming opportunities have arisen since that time.

With a new park and recreation center under development at 2030 North Texas Street, City staff now recommend naming the park in honor of Councilmember Berger. The City Manager’s Office submitted a formal application to the Honors Committee, which is composed of two councilmembers—Doug Carr and Manveer Sandhu —appointed annually by the Mayor. The committee reviewed and approved the application, forwarding their recommendation to Mayor Catherine "Cat" Moy.

Mayor Moy concurred with the committee’s recommendation and agreed that naming the new park in honor of Robbie burr Berger is a fitting tribute to her legacy and service to the Fairfield community.
