Subject: Housing First Project
Thank You for giving those of us who cannot attend this meeting a chance to voice our opinions and concerns. I live in the flower district just off of North Texas St and within 1/2 mile of the proposed project so I do have a vested interest in this issue.
Homelessness is a HUGE issue and a complicated one. We are all individuals with our own issues, needs, experiences and problems and those who are homeless aren’t any different in that regard. What we need, especially these days, is to have some compassion for those who may not have. Whatever the reasons behind a person’s lack of housing I believe that they should have the opportunity to be housed so I support this project. Many homeless people are already ‘living’ and roaming in this area and I haven’t noticed an increase in crime in this neighborhood from this population.
My questions are:
1) Who will be responsible for maintaining and keeping up the property so it doesn’t fall into disrepair because it is for the homeless
2) What are the rules and regulations for occupancy? Who ensures those rules are followed?
You don't often get email from [email protected]. Learn why this is important CAUTION: This email originated from outside the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe.
2 3) Many homeless are not functional and may have mental illnesses and drug/alcohol dependency issues, for safety will there be more than one social worker on the premises and treatment available on site or at least transportation provided to those services?
4) Who provides food?
I’m glad, though I do know that counties are now mandated, the city is attending to this matter. I understand, though saddened, that many people are frightened and unwilling to ‘allow’ this project to move forward. Many of the homeless people I’ve come across are polite and friendly ….
