Subject: Opposition to the proposed Vista Ridge Complex
To whom it may concern,
My name is Dr Chris Claus. I am a lifelong resident of Fairfield, a father, a dentist, and the owner of My Kid’s Dentist in Fairfield. I am writing today to express my concern over the proposed Vista Bridge Permanent Housing Complex. I understand this complex is intended to serve homeless or at-risk individuals with substance abuse issues, behavioral health challenges, and military veterans.
My pediatric dentistry office is situated less than 400 feet from the SureStay Hotel, where the proposed complex would be located. As a provider of dental services to children, it is of paramount importance You don't often get email from [email protected]. 2 that I provide an environment that is welcoming, calming, and safe. This starts from the moment parents park their cars and bring their children into the building.
We have, unfortunately, had numerous encounters with unhoused individuals in the past. We have endured repeated episodes of littering, human waste, vandalism, drug paraphernalia, public intoxication, nudity, sexual activity, and violent behavior towards staff and clients. My team is already forced to make trips to the dumpster in pairs, for fear of being accosted by mentally unstable, often unhoused individuals that frequent the area.
While I sympathize with struggles experienced by those afflicted with substance addictions and lack of adequate housing, I am certain that this particular solution will help few and hurt many. Parents trust me and my team to create a safe environment that nurtures the patient-dentist relationship. They trust me because I am an advocate for their children and seek to protect them as though they were my own.
Allowing this project to move forward will increase the concentration of potentially dangerous individ uals around my office and directly increase the risk posed to my team, my family, and the families that put their trust in me every day.
This project cannot move forward as planned when the safety of our children is at risk.
Sincerely,
Chris K. Claus DDS, MSD
