ORDINANCE NO. 2022- 04
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRFIELD ADOPTING THE OFFICIAL
COUNCIL DISTRICT MAP TO ESTABLISH BOUNDARIES FOR THE CITY COUNCIL DISTRICTS
FOLLOWING THE DECENNIAL FEDERAL CENSUS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRFIELD DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. This Ordinance is adopted with respect to the following purposes:
a) On February 18, 2020, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2020- 02 ( i) to amend Chapter 2A of the Fairfield Municipal Codeto provide for the election of six members to the City Council by district and the election of the Mayor City-wide and (ii) to adopt a map to establish the boundaries and identification number of each district ( the 2020 Official Council District Map").
b) Pursuant to Section 21601 of the California Elections Code and Section 2A. 05 of the Fairfield Municipal Code, following each decennial federal census, the City Council shall adopt boundaries for all City Council districts so that the districts are substantially equal in population as required by the United States Constitution.
SECTION 2. The map attached hereto as Exhibit A is hereby approved and adopted as the official " Council District Map" referenced in Section 2A. 02 of the Fairfield Municipal Code and such map shall replace the 2020 Official Council District Map as the official Council District Map to be kept on file in the Office of the City Clerk.
SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall be effective 30 days following its adoption by the City Council.
A summary of this Ordinance shall, within fifteen ( 15) days after passage, be published in accordance with Section 36933 of the Government Code of the State of California with the names of the City Council members voting for and against it.
SECTION 5. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this Ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining portions of this Ordinance shall nonetheless remain in full force and effect. The City Council of the City of Fairfield hereby declares that it would have adopted each section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this Ordinance, irrespective of the fact that any one or more sections, subsections, sentences, clauses, phrases, or portions of this Ordinance be declared invalid or unenforceable.
