Dear Ms. Hall:

We have completed our first week of production on DARK LIGHT and have had a wonderful time so far making the film in Ferndale. Many thanks to your oTice and the City Council for your support.

We are writing at this time to request additional parking and traTic control on Main Street as we continue shooting the film. Beginning on Friday, October 24, we will move inside the Valley Grocery at 339 Main Street and our shooting will be much more contained. However, in some scenes, we will see out onto Main Street and need to control some of the parking and traTic for continuity reasons. Since we shoot the scenes out of order, it’s necessary to keep what is seen on Main Street consistent with what has already been established. For that reason, we are requesting the following:

No Parking Intermittent Tra0ic Control
Friday, Oct 24 10:30pm – 5am
Monday, Oct 27 3:30pm – 9pm 3:30pm–7pm and 8-10pm
Tuesday, Oct 28 2:30pm – 6:30pm 3:00pm – 6:30pm
Wednesday, Oct 29 12:30pm – 2:30pm 1pm – 2:30pm
Friday, Oct 31 2:00 am – 6:00am [Nov 1]
Monday, Nov 3 5:00pm – 2:00am
Tuesday, Nov 4 3:30pm – 4:00am 4pm – 10pm
Wednesday, Nov 5 5:00pm – 11pm 5:30pm – 10:00pm

Notes

1. The Intermittent TraTic Control is diTerent from the street closures that the City Council approved in Resolution 2025-22. Since we are not actively working in the middle of the street, we do not need to completely close the 300-block of Main Street. We only need to control the traTic during filming takes. Flaggers from Stop And Go TraTic Control, our approved TraTic Control vendor, would hold or divert traTic for 1-3 minutes at a time only when actively rolling camera. The street would be open more than 90% of the time during the requested Intermittent TraTic Control periods.

2. Most of the requested No Parking and Intermittent TraTic Control periods are after the vast majority of Main Street businesses are closed. In addition, all of the Friday No Parking requests are late in the evening after most Main Street activity has subsided, so we expect that we will not interfere with any community activities.

3. We are aware of the Ferndale Frightfully Fun Monster Mash Block Party activities organized by the Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, October 29 from 5-8pm. Since our requested No Parking and Intermittent TraTic Control is in the early afternoon, we will not interfere with any of those activities. (We probably will be finished before 2:30pm, but are requesting traTic control until that time to allow for a little bit of margin.) We would also not have to modify much of the Halloween decorations and would be able to restore everything before 3:30pm on Oct 29.

4. We may be able to limit the No Parking posting to a smaller area than we’ve requested for the past week. Based on what the camera will see, we can limit the No Parking posting to the area depicted below:

We realize that any small disruption can be inconvenient for the residents and businesses of Ferndale, so we truly appreciate how accommodating the community has been of our presence during filming. In advance of meeting with the City Council, we will reach out to the aTected businesses again to get their feedback. We look forward to discussing our request with the City Council soon.

Best,
Matthew Hsu
