MONTHLY CRIME ANALYSIS:
ln July, our police department exhibited a proactive and dedicated approach to tackling drugrelated crime, traffic safety, and property offenses, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.
Throughout the month, officers made significant strides in narcotics enforcement, resulting in 13 arrests for drug offenses and an additional 17 arrests related to drug paraphernalia. The execution of two narcotics search warrants led to the arrest of two individuals involved in the sale of drugs to our residents, targeting the supply chain within our community. Notably, methamphetamines remained the predominant narcotic encountered among users throughout the city. Our officers are committed to identiflTing and apprehending drug dealers, even if investigations necessitate operating outside city limits, in an ongoing effort to maintain a drugfree environment.
Traffic safety continues to be an area of focus, with officers arresting 9 individuals for driving under the influence. ln addition, 62 traffic citations were issued, concentrating on violations such as speeding, stop sign infractions, and other dangerous driving behaviors. To enhance our efforts, officers frequently worked overtime funded by the Office of Traffic Safety to identifiT drunk drivers and enforce traffic laws, reinforcing our commitment to reducing roadway hazards and protecting the community.
July saw the recovery of three stolen vehicles, with suspects apprehended all cases. This reflects our continued dedication to property crime prevention and resolution. Overall, property crimes have shown a slight decline compared to previous years, demonstrating our ongoing efforts in follow-up investigations. Officers are consistently pursuing case leads and working diligently to identify suspects, aiming to close out cases effectively.
Ourdispatch centerexperienced a busy month, handling a total of 1,233 calls. Of these,512 were initiated by citizens, andT2l were self-initiated by officers. The dispatch center continues to deliver exceptional service to our citizens, ensuring timely responses to emergencies and assistance requests.
SIGNIFICANT CASES:
On July 18, a citizen reported the theft of his 2019 Nissan Altima from the vicinity of 11th and P Street. Acting quickly on this report, Firebaugh Officers initiated an investigation that would lead to the successful recovery of the stolen vehicle. Utilizing tracking technology, officers were able to pinpoint the location of the vehicle to a residence in the 4000 block of Emery Road in Merced County. Upon arrival at the location, officers observed the stolen Nissan Altima and took immediate action to apprehend the suspect. As officers approached, a female suspect fled on foot into a nearby field. Officers pursued her into the area and, after a thorough search, successfully apprehended her. During this operation, officers also discovered a marijuana grow and narcotics on the premises, indicating further illegal activity at the location.
On July 19, an officer conducted a routine check of a license plate on a white Toyota Corolla parked on the 2000 block of River Lane. The check revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Los Banos. Responding swiftly to the situation, the officer arrested a female suspect at the scene for possession of the stolen vehicle. This incident highlights our ongoing commitment to proactive policing and the effectiveness of routine checks in recovering stolen property and apprehending individuals involved in criminal activity.
On July 15, Firebaugh officers responded to a call regarding a family disturbance at 1544 N Street, where a female stated that her ex-boyfriend was present, and she did not want him there. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a blue Chevy pickup truck parked at the location, which had been reported stolen out of Kerman. While investigating further, officers located a male subject hanging underneath the truck to the frame, attempting to avoid detection. Officers apprehended the individual and subsequently arrested him for possession of a stolen vehicle.
PERSONNEL:
The department's personnel strength stands at 23, including 12 sworn officers, 4 full-time dispatchers, 2 part-time dispatchers, 1 records supervisor and 3 reserve officers.
I am currently advertising for one full-time police officer and for reserve police officer positions. lt has been difficult attracting good, qualified applicants due to most police and sheriff departments hiring.
