PROCLAMATION
Honoring the 70th Anniversary of Parents and Friends
WHEREAS, Parents & Friends was founded in 1955, almost 20 years before handicapped children were provided with educational opportunities in public schools afforded them under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1975; and WHEREAS, this year marks the beginning of Parents & Friends’ 70th year serving the community of Fort Bragg; and WHEREAS, the mission of Parents & Friends continues to be “empower individuals with developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling, independent lives, to provide personalized support and inclusive opportunities for growth and employment, and to advocate for community integration, dignity, and lifelong learning”; and WHEREAS, Parents & Friends provides integral services that help the developmentally disabled members of our community grow and thrive; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Bragg relies on the personalized services and inclusive setting that Parents & Friends provides its citizens; and WHEREAS, Parents & Friends continues to operate as a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer-based Board of Directors dedicated to service, growth, and responsiveness to the community of Fort Bragg over seven decades; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, I, Jason Godeke, Mayor of the City of Fort Bragg, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby recognize and congratulate Parents & Friends on the exceptional occasion of its 70th anniversary, and extend our deep appreciation for their ongoing contributions to the Fort Bragg community.
