STAFF REPORT
City Council Consent Item
DATE: September 6, 2022
TO: Honorable Mayor and Council Members
FROM: Casey J. Day, Chief of Police
THROUGH: Merritt Perry, City Manager
SUBJECT: Approve Supplemental Budget Request to Purchase a Storage Container for the City's Animal Control Facility
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Approve a Supplemental Budget Request (SBR) for the Purchase of a CONNEX shipping container for dry storage at the City’s Animal Control/Kennel Facility.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

In July of 2020, the Chief of Police inspected all City facilities utilized by the police department.

The animal control facility commonly referred to as the “kennel”, was found to be in need of minor construction upgrades and increased storage capacity. Staff has determined that the procurement of one, CONNEX style metal container will resolve existing storage and organizational problems.

The CONNEX box container will replace the existing A-Frame canopy covering the adjacent storage area and prevent further water related damage to the permanent building structure by curbing drainage and water runoff from the existing A-Frame canopy.

The estimated cost for the purchase of the storage container is $9,000.00. The estimated remaining $1000.00 will be used to cover associated delivery fees and to install venting and electrical capabilities within the storage container. Staff received updated quotes during the week of August 15, 2022 to confirm the costs. The CONNEX box will be purchased from the company doing business as: Don’s Rent-All. Although Don’s Rent-All was not the lowest bid, it was the only bid for readily available equipment, which included the expected equipment functions being sought by the City. The purchase of the storage container is an allowable use of Asset Seizure funds.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The purchase of the storage container and applicable delivery and construction materials will cost the City $10,000.00. Staff recommends that $10,000.00 come from the Asset Seizure Fund (180- 5500-2000).

RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:

Approve a Supplemental Budget Request for the purchase of one CONNEX storage container utilizing funds from the City’s Asset Seizure Account. Consent Agenda vote.
