SUBJECT: Police Department Monthly Report for July 2023 STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Receive report as an informational item.
Patrol Statistics:
During the month of July 2023, the Fortuna Police handled 1,611 calls for service. 79 arrests were made including 21 felony arrests and 58 misdemeanor arrests. 84 citations were issued for traffic offenses or other miscellaneous violations. Staffing:
The police department recruited one experienced lateral police officer candidate who was on-boarded in the month of July.
Kennel Attendant Karlee Humphrey was selected as the part-time CSO and was onboarded in the month of July. The police department has selected a candidate to fill the open Public Safety Dispatcher vacancy. The candidate has started the pre-employment background investigation. The police department is preparing to fill the following vacancies: Kennel Attendant. *Command Staff is currently considering a recommendation for the addition of a second lieutenants position to the organizational chart.
Status of Grant Awards/Applications:
USDA – Body Worn Camera: Submitted, awaiting approval and award.
COPS – Federal funding for a new police officer position: Submitted, awaiting approval and award.
Community Engagement Piece:
Event Season went well. The police department re-implemented the Explorer program which is thriving.
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
Receive Police Department Monthly Report (July). Consent Agenda vote.
