SUBJECT: Police Department Monthly Report for August 2023 STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Receive report as an informational item.
Patrol Statistics:
During the month of August 2023, the Fortuna Police handled 1,519 calls for service. 55 arrests were made including 13 felony arrests and 42 misdemeanor arrests. 52 citations were issued for traffic offenses or other miscellaneous violations. Staffing:
The police department has one experienced lateral police officer candidate nearing the end of the pre-employment background investigation.
The police department has on entry level Public Safety Dispatcher candidate nearing the end of the pre-employment background investigation.
Kennel Attendant interviews were completed in the month of August.
Body Worn Camera:
During the month of August, the departments body worn camera program crashed. As several cameras began to break the data drives and computer, housing data drives also broke. Nylex is currently in the process of trying to recover data however the body worn camera program has been suspended pending implementation of the new program and announcement of the USDA grant.
Status of Grant Awards/Applications:
USDA – Body Worn Camera: Submitted, awaiting approval and award.
COPS – Federal funding for a new police officer position: Submitted, awaiting approval and award (announced in October / federal FY).
