SUBJECT: Community Development Department Report for February 2025 STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Receive a report highlighting February 2025 Community Development Department activities.
PLANNING DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS:
• New Planning applications were received including two Home Occupation Permits and a Mobile Food Vendor Permit.
• Ongoing development projects include several minor and major subdivisions, and other land use entitlements.
• Progress continues on the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan with adoption anticipated in late Spring or early Summer 2025.
• Progress continues on the Regional Climate Action Plan with the Environmental Impact Report currently out for public comment.
• On Tuesday, February 5th, the Community Development Director participated in a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan update meting around Community Lifelines and Risk Assessment.
• On Thursday, February 6, 2025, the Community Development Director attended the Bay Cities Leadership Academy.
• On Friday, February 7, 2025, the Community Development Director met with the Building Official and Utilities Superintendent to review and update the City’s Wastewater Discharge permitting and inspection process. • On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Community Development Director attended the State of the City address.
• On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Community Development Director attended the CalCities Planning and Community Development Department Business Meeting. • On February 18th Council adopted the Mill District Specific Plan, Mill District Specific Plan Supplemental Environmental Impact Report and Mitigation Monitoring Report, and Consent Item 5f
implementing General Plan Amendments and Design Guidelines. Your body also held the first reading of the implementing Zoning amendments. • On Wednesday, February 19th, the Community Development Director attended a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan update meeting around the Humboldt County Capability Assessment Survey.
• On Friday, February 21st, the Community Development Director was the TalkShop radio show guest.
• On Friday, February 21st the Senior Administrative Assistant recruitment closed. • On Monday, February 24th, an additional pre-application meeting was held for the Humboldt Senior Resource Center senior housing project. • On Thursday, February 27th, the Community Development Director participated in the Regional Climate Adaptation Plan working group meeting. • On Thursday, February 27th, the Community Development Director attended the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan update meeting around eligible mitigation measures.
PLANNING COMMISSION ACTIVITY:
• On February 11, 2025, the Planning Commission approved Design Review for the Burger King located at 925 South Fortuna Boulevard.
• On February 25, 2025, the Planning Commission approved Design Review for Casa Park Homes located at 365 North Fortuna Boulevard.
