STAFF REPORT
City Council Consent Item
DATE: March 17, 2025
TO: Honorable Mayor and Council Members
FROM: Aaron Felmlee, Finance Director
THROUGH: Amy Nilsen, City Manager
SUBJECT: Approve Supplemental Budget Request to Purchase a New Domain Controller STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Approve a Supplemental Budget Request (SBR) for the Purchase of a new domain controller.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The City’s existing domain controllers are three versions behind and are now out of support by Microsoft. The domain controllers are used by Okta which is an identity and access management service that is required as part of the City of Fortuna’s finance software. Okta notified the City last month that on April 3, 2025 the City’s existing domain controllers would need an update to ensure our Tyler Identity Workforce products (finance software) integrating with the Active Directory agent continue to function.

Updating the domain controller will also add value to the City’s current efforts with the Office 365 project. Nylex has provided a quote to complete the work.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

Purchase and installation of the new domain controller is $22,905.52. Of the total cost, $18,400 will need to come from General Fund reserves, $1,610 from the Water Fund, and $2,990 from the Wastewater Fund.

RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:

Approve a Supplemental Budget Request (SBR) in the amount of $23,000 for the Purchase and installation of a new domain controller. Consent Agenda vote.
