Dear Commissioners:
I am Patty Canter and along with my husband, Bill Canter, we are making a request to the parks commission to assist us in honoring our granddaughter, Iris Canter, who passed away on January 25, 2025.
Iris was an active 9 year old and a student at Walker Elementary. She passed away very suddenly from complications of flu and pneumonia. Iris lived very close to Rohner Park and she and her family walked or rode bikes to the park on a year-round basis. She played on the playground from the time she was a toddler, and it was a much-loved activity for her and her We would like to honor Iris by dedicating a park bench in her memory. If there is a spot near the playground that needs an additional bench or possibly one that is in disrepair and needs replacing, we are happy to purchase a new bench. If this is not the case, we would like to add a plaque to an existing bench.
The wording and size of the plaque would be based upon the recommendation of your staff.
We live in Bristol, Virginia, and with the specifics recommended, we could purchase the plaque here. If not, we are happy to work with someone in your department to have the plaque purchased in Fortuna.
