SUBJECT: Authorize the City Manager to award the Wastewater Treatment Plant Secondary Clarifier Recoating Project (CIP 9125) to Clean Infusion and establish a maximum contract amount of $118,242
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the City Manager to award the Wastewater Treatment Plant Secondary Clarifier Recoating Project (CIP 9125) to Clean Infusion and establish a maximum contract amount of $118,242.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City of Fortuna’s Wastewater Treatment Plant is a crucial part of the City’s infrastructure.
Components of the plant are continuously subjected to harsh and corrosive conditions created by wastewater. Periodically components require significant maintenance, and such is the case for the older of the plant’s two secondary clarifiers. The clarifier has been in operation for approximately 25 years resulting in deterioration of the protective coating on metal surfaces and parts which have become oxidized, see below.
As can be seen, the deterioration is advanced, which makes this a high priority project. Replacement parts are not readily available, and many would require custom fabrication at a cost far greater than restoration. In order to preserve functionality and increase the longevity of the clarifier, the metal components need to be stripped, deoxidized and recoated.
