SUBJECT: Police Department Monthly Report for September 2025 STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Receive report as an informational item.
Patrol Statistics:
During the month of September 2025, the Fortuna Police handled 1,302 calls for service. 36 arrests were made including 12 felony arrests and 24 misdemeanor arrests. A total of 40 citations were issued for traffic offenses or other miscellaneous violations. Crime statistics and information on calls for service are available at forpd.crimegraphics.com.
Staffing:
• Recruitment Update: Interviews continue to be conducted with applicants. Background investigations has been initiated on a recruit trainee and a lateral officer. • Two Sworn Police Officers continue to progress through the Field Training Program. • Staffing and Recruitment: The department currently has three vacant sworn officer positions and is actively recruiting to fill these positions. • Operational Impact: Due to ongoing training requirements for Police Officer in the Field Training Program, existing sworn officer vacancies, and one employee on unanticipated leave, the department is operating with six fewer sworn patrol officers than authorized staffing levels. Mandatory weekly overtime remains in effect to address the staffing crisis.
• We are recruiting for a non-sworn part-time Community Services Officer position and have begun the background hiring process on a part-time Kennel Attendant.
Enforcement/Community Engagement:
• Chief and Lieutenant presented at local Kiwanis meeting. • Members of Fortuna Senior Center toured the department. Special thanks to Sergeant Charlton.
• SRO conducted Police Explorer meeting, meeting with interested youth.
