With ever increasing instances of compromised passwords and mailboxes to spread phishing and ransomware, it is important the City have a system in place to protect user’s mailboxes and credentials. While Microsoft recommends advanced multi-factor options like Yubico keys and MS Authenticator app, these options introduce complexity for daily use. Nylex is recommending the City implement the Huntress Identity Theft Detection and Response (ITDR). ITDR system solves the complexity problem by working silently in the background and responding to threats and compromises without user intervention. By using artificial intelligence combined with a 24/7 manned security operation center to evaluate behavior and patterns, ITDR prevents exploitation of a compromised mailbox by locking the account, disconnecting the bad guys, and sending alerts to system managers before the criminals can escalate their attack. The goal is to decrease the number of phishing or ransomware laden emails from a compromised mailbox, which can negatively impact the City’s organizational reputation and financial well-being. The City will be working with Nylex to implement Huntress over the next two months.

City staff continues to work collaboratively with Nylex to meet the City’s ongoing technical needs.
