SUBJECT: Call for a Municipal Election to be Held on November 3, 2026, Establish Council Election Policies, and Request Consolidation with the County of Humboldt; Resolution 2026-11
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Call for a Municipal Election on November 3, 2026, establish Council Election Policies and request a Consolidated Election with the County of Humboldt by adopting Resolution 2026-11.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City’s next municipal election will be held on November 3, 2026. The filing period for nomination papers will run from Monday, July 13, 2026, to Friday, August 7, 2026. If an incumbent does not run, a five-day extension is granted for returning nomination papers. A calendar that shows the election schedule is attached for your information.
In the past, the County has administered the election for the City and the City reimburses the County for costs. Funds for this election are included in the Fiscal Year 2026-27 Budget. The rules and policies regarding the conduct of running the election are shown in the attached resolution.
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
Adopt Resolution 2026-11. Consent Agenda vote.
