STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Declare the following property surplus and authorize its disposition by adopting Resolution 2026-
16. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City has accumulated some personal property, including vehicles and equipment that is no longer of use to the City. Staff requests that the Council declare the following personal property surplus and authorize disposal by auction though a private auction house if feasible, or by disposal as scrap. Typically, these items have residual values under $1000 and are non-operational, having already been scavenged for parts:

The California Constitution and Government Code 37350, 37351 provides for a city to dispose of personal property in any way it chooses if the disposition is for the common benefit. The proposed disposition methods are presented in the table above. Staff note that on the table above there are vehicles that can or cannot be auctioned, this is due to the fact that they have been used for parts for many years and therefore have no reasonable salvage or auction value.
It is anticipated that the items listed for auction will be placed in a public auction taking place in 2026 via a licensed auction house. Proceeds will be deposited into the City’s General Fund. If sale by auction is not feasible, items will be disposed of by recycling, donation, or other appropriate method for the common benefit.
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
Adopt Resolution 2026-16. Consent Agenda vote.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORTUNA DECLARING
CERTAIN PERSONAL PROPERTY SURPLUS AND AUTHORIZING THE DISPOSAL OF
SURPLUS PERSONALPROPERTY
WHEREAS, the City of Fortuna has determined that the following vehicles and equipment will no longer be used by the City:

WHEREAS, the California Constitution and Government Code Section 37350, 37351 allows for the disposal of surplus personal property by a city in any way it chooses if the disposal is for the common benefit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fortuna hereby declares that the listed personal property is surplus and may be disposed of in the proposed manner, or other manner which is for the common benefit.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any items the City is unable to dispose of through the proposed methods will be disposed of by recycling, donation, or other appropriate method for the common benefit.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all monies received from the sale of said items shall be deposited in the City of Fortuna’s General Fund.
