A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORTUNA
ADOPTING THE URBAN WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN AND WATER SHORTAGE
CONTINGENCY PLAN
WHEREAS, the City prepared an Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) and Water Shortage Contingency Plan (WSCP) in compliance with the requirements of the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) pursuant to Urban Water Management Act (UWMP Act) and the Water Conservation Bill of 2009; and
WHEREAS, the City’s UWMP and WSCP must be updated every five years as required by the UWMP Act; and
WHEREAS, the City’s UWMP and WSCP were last adopted in June of 2021; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the UWMP is to assist water agencies in carrying out their long-term resource planning responsibilities to ensure adequate water supplies are available to meet existing and future water demands; and
WHEREAS, the evaluation of four areas affecting the City’s water supply will allow City staff to better manage the water distribution system and help to ensure efficient and cost-effective operation of the City's water system into the future; and WHEREAS, the procedural requirements of the UWMP include public notice, council review and approval, that the City has completed, considered and adopted the Plan; and WHEREAS, a proposed draft copy of the City’s UWMP was made available to the public, for more than 15 days; and
WHEREAS, the City did not receive any public comments pursuant to the notice or at the public hearing which required substantive alteration of the draft plans.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council of the City of Fortuna hereby approves and adopts the City of Fortuna Urban Water Management Plan and Water Shortage Contingency Plan including all process and implementation, in accordance with the procedural requirements of the UWMP Act.
