Notices Posted (Public Hearing, Agenda, Ordinance, etc.) 3 The City Clerk is responsible for organizing the City's side of the election process, making sure all legal requirements are met, candidates can qualify for the ballot, voters receive accurate information, and the election results are properly recorded and certified. For the upcoming General Election on November 3, 2026, Clerk staff met with the Humboldt County Office of Elections on June 18th, for an informational meeting to discuss the details of candidate filing and best practices, common candidate questions and consolidation of the election. The meeting was a success in terms of collaboration with the County and other local jurisdictions. County Elections staff took the opportunity to create custom nomination forms to create consistency amongst the jurisdictions as well as streamline the filing process with the County.

The nomination period is not officially open and will run from July 13th through August 7th. This year, there are four Council Seats up for election. One seat has a two-year term and three have four-year terms. If there are any members of the public interested in running for City Council, please call and schedule an appointment with the Clerk or Deputy Clerk by calling the Clerk’s Office directly at 707-725-1409 or emailing [email protected]. This year, California Intergovernmental Risk Authority (CIRA) has implemented a new online property coverage renewal process through the Harbor platform to streamline property renewals and improve the submission process. Risk staff are in the process of reviewing the City’s Schedule of Values to ensure proper coverage for all facilities and properties. In addition, CIRA has welcomed three new entities into the growing Joint Powers Authority (JPA), Pioneer Fire Protection District, the City of El Segundo and Broadmoor Police Protection District.

Also, as identified in the recent CIRA Strategic Planning Sessions, one of the Board’s highest priorities is strengthening CIRA's legislative advocacy efforts, including advancing meaningful tort reform and workers' compensation reform. As an early step toward this objective, CIRA has joined the California Association of Joint Powers Authorities (CAJPA) and a broad coalition of public agencies, local government organizations, and educational associations advocating for meaningful tort reform. CIRA is encouraging agencies to join the effort by providing a letter of support for tort reform that protects essential public services and California tax payers.
