In Recognition of
National PACE Month
September 2026
WHEREAS, the elderly population in Humboldt County is growing rapidly, with a significant impact on healthcare needs and costs; and
WHEREAS, the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a fully integrated, comprehensive model of care that allows older adults who qualify for a nursing home level of care to continue living safely and independently in their homes and communities; and
WHEREAS, participants enrolled in PACE receive all Medicare- and Medi-Cal-covered services, along with additional support such as rehabilitation, transportation, nutrition, social engagement, and family caregiver assistance that promote overall health and well-being; and WHEREAS, PACE programs assume full financial responsibility for participants’ medical care and related services — including hospitalization and long-term care — through capitated payments from Medicare and Medi-Cal, thereby helping to control costs for the state while improving quality of care; and WHEREAS, Redwood Coast PACE, a program of the Humboldt Senior Resource Center, has served more than 750 older adults in Humboldt County with over 400 older adults currently enrolled with centers located in Fortuna, Eureka and Arcata, providing a trusted local resource for families and seniors alike; and WHEREAS, Redwood Coast PACE celebrates its 12th anniversary of serving the Humboldt community, WHEREAS, the PACE model of care has consistently demonstrated improved health outcomes, greater participant satisfaction, and enhanced quality of life for older adults, while supporting families and strengthening communities;
NOW THEREFORE, I Mayor Mike Johnson, on behalf of the City Council of the City of Fortuna, do hereby proclaim September 2026 as National PACE Month in the City of Fortuna, and encourage all citizens to recognize the importance of Redwood Coast PACE, a program of the Humboldt Senior Resource Center in ensuring dignity, independence, and quality care for our community’s seniors.
