Dear Committee Members,
I congratulate you on setting up this committee with the laudable aim of retaining a healthy and visually attractive place to live.
My wife and I chose this city to retire in Foster City for the above
reasons.
One of persons whose groundwork helped us to assimilate into the community is Shilpi Goel. One of the organization that helped us in our process of assimilation
Is the South Asian seniors founded by

(i) helping unhoused
citizens through weekly meals as well as monthly hygiene kits and (ii) in heading a Clean up Group to collect litter and carelessly thrown trash.
My wife and I understand that Shilpi Goel has applied to join the Foster City Sustainability Committee. Both of feel that she will a valuable addition to the Sustainability Committee. Hence, we look forward to application being accepted

Hello,
I’d like to offer my full fledged support for Shilpi Garg’s nomination & thus a position on FC sustainability committee.
I’ve known Shilpi for the last 20+ years and I’m amazed at all her contributions over the years ! She truly cares for residents of FC - and this is evident in all the activities she’s engaged in.
Here’s a few that I am
aware of :
- She runs a seniors group in FC, thus allowing parents & relatives to meet up and thus form a great bond with others in the neighborhood.
I wish I had known about this when my parents visited me back in 2006 and 2009.
- Shilpi is also involved in helping keep our parks clean, thus promoting a culture of participation in neighborhood activities.
- She also helps organize a meal delivery service for the homeless in and around the peninsula area.
The goal is to
provide wholesome nutritious food to those in need and thus build a trusting relationship with them to help them ultimately get off the streets.
- last but not least, she’s very active in community events and that only speaks to her level of commitment. And in each of these events, she’s constantly thinking of eliminating waste and promoting sustainability.
I cannot think of anyone better suited to represent FC on the sustainability committee and whole heartedly support her candidacy !! I sincerely hope the FC council considers her application and judges her purely on the merits of her contributions.
Sincerely,
Rama

Dear City of Foster City,
It is my complete pleasure to write in full support of Ms. Shilpi Goel for consideration as a member of the City of Foster City’s Sustainability Committee. I have been waiting for the day that I could write to support Shilpi in her continuing community and civic
engagements.
I was a resident of Foster City from 1985-1993, and my family continues to reside in Foster City. As a high school student, I served on the Foster City Youth Advisory Community for two years, 1991-1993. I have since spent many years in community pursuits, and recognize a selfless spirit a mile away.
Shilpi is this shining star of selflessness for our community. She is beyond selfless and sees her role as a duty to serve and to especially help communities such as those currently unhoused or older adults, that may not have a voice at the table. She takes initiative, cuts through rhetoric, and harnesses resources and collaborations, all in the name of serving her beloved community of Foster City.
I humbly ask that Shilpi be considered for the Sustainability Committee. She would be such a gift to Foster City civic and community leadership!
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to be in touch.

Subject: Please cull the Canadian Geese
Date: Tuesday, July 12, 2022 3:59:42 PM
I have been a resident of Foster City for 17 years and moved here primarily because of its beautiful parks. However after having to sanitize a toddler covered in goose excrement it became obvious that the parks were largely unusable as intended because of the goose problem.
When I coached little league, players slipping and falling in goose poop at Sea Cloud was a common problem.
Replacing all the grass in FC with synthetic turf is not a realistic solution.
Other mitigation efforts are also
expensive and ineffective.
The geese are also aggressive and drive out more docile wildlife such as ducks.
The geese are vermin and should be eradicated as such.
I fully support a cull and would support an annual event.
The ideal population of Canadian Geese in FC is zero.
Respectfully Submitted,
Matt Gowdy

It is my opinion the number and location of campaign signs allowed within the city should be severely curtailed.
No more than one sign per candidate at any single location. The ordinances that we already have regarding the placement and permitted size of signs needs to be enforced.
Having ordinances that are not enforced is the same as not having ordinances at all.

Attention: Agenda item 7.1 – “Canada Goose Population Management Plan Update – Progress Update on Mitigation Strategies and Permits”
—-
Good day,
I’m writing as a native Bay Area resident to implore you to spare the lives of the Canadian Geese and to pursue alternative strategies that will more successfully help you manage the population.
Please look into and pursue non-lethal options instead of killing Canada geese, who are our wild animal neighbors. I encourage you to engage the National Goose Protection Coalition at [email protected]
for new non-lethal options to remedy any conflicts with geese. This is a resource eager to help. Please work with this and other wildlife experts, and take the time to find a solution that does not involve killing.
Foster City made the national news for its plan to kill the geese — because it’s that shocking.
This is an opportunity to take the necessary time and care to show how innovative this region can be in developing solutions that allow us to coexist with nature.
Please spare these beautiful animals. Please make a way to save them the primary component of your plan.
Thank you.

Good Afternoon,
I would like to submit a public comment for tonight's City Council meeting regarding Agenda item 7.1 on the
Canada Goose Population Management Plan Update.
I support the continued effort by the City to address the water quality issues in the Foster City Lagoon including the management of the Goose population.
However, without any process by
which to remove nutrients that enters the lagoon, the water quality will remain
extremely
poor.
I urge the City Council to seriously
consider additional methods
to address the water
quality
issues, particularly
ones that result in active removal of nutrients from the water table such as the installation
of floating wetlands or planted areas in the lagoon as referenced in my attached email chain with Foster City Public Works.
Thank you for your time and consideration,

Subject: Agenda item #7 Canada Geese
Date: Monday, July 18, 2022 3:22:37 PM
It helps to think of the geese as co-inhabitants. Many residents consider their Canada Geese neighbors to be one of the assets of living in Foster City. In a sense, the geese are similar to other assets such as parks, streets, city landscaping, libraries, etc. To be enjoyed, assets must be maintained on an ongoing basis.
According to communities that have used egg addling, for example, egg addling is one of the most effective and inexpensive nonlethal ways to reduce the geese population. However, it may need to done not just once, but on an ongoing basis. For example, egg addling was instrumental in reducing the number of geese in one community from 300 geese to about 30-60 geese within 5 years. (Watch the informative short videos at https://geeepeace.com
to see the implementation of egg
addling and other non-lethal methods.)
The City’s July 18, 2022 update on geese management strategies reports that both egg addling and strategic fencing have proven in the past to be successful in Foster City. Modifying landscaping to make it less appealing to geese is another inexpensive, successful nonlethal method that apparently has not been tried. Geese feel secure and contented where vegetation is low, with mowed, fertilized grass providing open sight lines to help them evade predators. Appropriate plantings along shorelines of grasses and shrubs about 30 inches high plus aquatic plants of similar size are lasting and inexpensive. Geese don't feel safe there. Habitat modification comes with a bonus. In light of our current drought, such simple changes of habitat promise to save water as well as discourage geese.
It took several years for the geese population to reach its present level. It may take a few years to reduce it. Rather than expend large sums on efforts to kill geese, divide the community, and produce short-term results, consider establishing a co-existence maintenance plan. Use proven humane deterrent methods as needed, on a continuing basis, and be rewarded with lasting results.
