A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FOSTER CITY
AUTHORIZING A PILOT PROGRAM FOR COMMUNITY-DESIGNED UTILITY BOX ART AND APPROPRIATING $8,220 IN FISCAL YEAR 2023-2024 FROM THE COMMUNITY BENEFIT FUND ACCOUNT NO. 005-0110-413-4251 TO OFFSET THE COSTS FOR
THE PILOT PROGRAM
CITY OF FOSTER CITY
WHEREAS, City utility boxes are frequent targets of vandalism and graffiti, with vandalism increasing significantly post-pandemic; and
WHEREAS, City maintenance staff must then remove or paint over the graffiti which is at a significant expense to the City in the form of labor costs, materials, and services in addition to the harmful impacts to the community from blight; and WHEREAS, In an effort to address the vandalism as well as to promote City beautification and civic pride, the FCPD and the Parks and Recreation Department would like to initiate a Utility Box Art Program for the City similar to programs that are common in the neighboring cities; and
WHEREAS, Staff requests City Council consider granting authorization to initiate a Pilot Program for Community-Designed Utility Box Art; and WHEREAS, City Council authorize an appropriation of $8,220 in Fiscal Year 2023- 2024 from the Community Benefit Fund Account No. 005-0110-413-4251 to offset the costs for a Utility Box Art Pilot Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Foster City does hereby authorize a Pilot Program for Community-Designed Utility Box Art and approves appropriating $8,220 in Fiscal Year 2023-2024 from the Community Benefit Fund Account No. 005-0110-413-4251 to offset the costs for a Utility Box Art Pilot Program.
