My wife grew up in Foster City and we moved here three years ago with our family of three because we really love the community. We did some renovation work on our house to update it, so I have some experience managing the considerations of a residential project (planning, permitting, inspections, etc).

The building and planning departments were both great to work with and very understanding, but the process can be cumbersome, especially to residents who are new to home projects. This challenge is not unique to Foster City, but I believe there are simple improvements that can be made to help residents and businesses move in, update, and become a thriving part of our community. Now that we are past the 50-year anniversary of the town, upgrading buildings will be an important step in the years ahead to keep our city vibrant and attractive.

Some ideas we could consider are:
- Incentives and easier permitting for infrastructural upgrades to buildings (asbestos remediation, earthquake retrofitting, etc)
- Prioritizing permit revisions for quick turnaround so that in-flight projects can continue and complete more seamlessly
- New standards for design and architecture that facilitate building and upgrading houses with more modern styles; I know this has been proposed recently but will require thoughtful implementation - Incentives to create more areas like Foster Square, bringing residents of multiple generations together with restaurants and retail space
Thank you in advance for your consideration! I look forward to serving the Foster City community.
