Proclamation of the
City of Foster City, California
Honoring the Life and Service of Dan Lee
WHEREAS, Dan Lee, was born on November 17, 1924 in Lordsburg, New Mexico, as the fourth of five children; and
WHEREAS, in 1943, during World War II, Dan Lee served in the United States Army Corp, now known as the United States Air Force, before being honorably discharged; and WHEREAS, at the age of 36, Dan Lee received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University and briefly worked at the University before accepting a job as a Development Engineer at the Stanford Research Institute, working on classified projects in American Samoa, England, Italy, and Japan for 27 years; and
WHEREAS, Dan Lee met his wife Barbara through a blind date set up by his sister-in-law and married one month later. Dan and Barbara Lee moved to Foster City in 1973; and WHEREAS, After retiring, Dan enjoyed taking dance lessons at the Foster City Recreation Center and even won 1st place at a regional dance contest in Hollywood. He also was an avid tennis player and competed in local men's doubles tennis teams in Foster City; and
WHEREAS, Dan Lee became an Emergency Services Volunteer for the Foster City Police Department on November 23, 1993, and helped with many community events like the 4th of July celebration, Arts and Wine Festival, Halloween Safe Streets, Summer Concerts, Police Department Open House, and more; and WHEREAS, Dan Lee received an advanced license in amateur radio in 1983 and served as a Ham Radio Operator for the Foster City Police Department, assisting with communications during emergencies if the police radio system went down; and was a member of the Volunteer Amateur Radio Unit, where he inspired others to join the Foster City team through his input into the ARC WAVES monthly publication; and WHEREAS, Dan Lee was very passionate about the Foster City Police Department and loved being part of the FCPD family. Dan was always grateful when department members would visit him at his home on his birthday; and
WHEREAS, Dan Lee will be remembered as a loving father to his son, Eric, husband to his wife Barbara, and grandfather to his two grandchildren, Gabriella, and Max; and WHEREAS, the Foster City Community is grateful to Dan Lee for his generous contributions and devotion as a volunteer.
NOW THEREFORE, I, STACY JIMENEZ, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF FOSTER CITY, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, do hereby recognize Dan Lee for the lasting impact he has made through his time volunteering with the Foster City Police Department, his passionate kind-hearted spirit, and his commitment and dedication to serve the Foster City community.
