Objectives
Please state reasons and objectives for desiring to become a member of this committee/commission Foster City has always held a special place in my heart. Although I only recently moved back here four months ago, my connection to this community runs much deeper. I grew up spending countless days in Foster City visiting my grandparents, who lived here for over twenty years. Later, I was fortunate to call this city home for seven years as an adult. Returning now with my own young family feels like coming full circle, and I am eager to give back to the community that shaped so many of my happiest memories.
My desire to serve on the Parks and Recreation Committee comes from both personal and professional motivations. As a school social worker, I have spent my career supporting the well-being of children, families, and communities. I believe deeply in the importance of accessible, inclusive spaces that nurture connection, belonging, and growth. Parks, recreation programs, and community events play a vital role in creating those connections, and I want to help ensure that every resident—whether a lifelong local or a new arrival—feels welcome and supported in our shared spaces.
Now that I am raising a family here, I want to help build on the strong communal foundation that those before us created. I want my child to grow up enjoying the same parks, festivals, and waterfront walks that I did, while also experiencing new opportunities that reflect our city’s growth and vision for the future. Joining the Parks and Recreation Committee would be both a personal honor and a meaningful way to contribute my energy, perspective, and professional experience to the continued vitality of Foster City.
Thank you for considering my application. I am passionate about this city, grateful to be part of its community once again, and eager to help preserve and enhance the spaces that make Foster City a wonderful place to live, play, and grow.

Objectives
Please state reasons and objectives for desiring to become a member of this committee/commission 4/5
I have lived in Foster City since 2013 and am the proud mother of two elementary school children (ages 6 and 8). Over the years, I've seen how our parks and recreation programs help families connect and strengthen our community.
Professionally, I bring over a decade of experience in strategic finance and business leadership. I currently serve as Senior Director of Strategic Finance at MasterClass, and previously held finance leadership roles at BFA Industries and Houzz. I hold an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and an MS in Finance from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Beyond work, I've been an active community volunteer—serving as a PTA parent, classroom volunteer, and currently as Board Member and CFO of Bright Horizon Chinese School (BHCS), a concessionaire of Foster City Parks and Recreation.
Disclosure: I want to acknowledge my BHCS involvement to ensure transparency and will always prioritize the broader interests of Foster City.
I also founded Foster Horizon, a community seminar series bringing together parents, educators, and civic leaders. With city facility support, we launched our inaugural event, "Second-Generation Stories: Growing Up Asian American," featuring Councilwoman Phoebe Shin Venkat. Our next webinar, "Beyond Grades in the Age of AI: Raising K–12 Kids in the Bay Area," takes place November 6. We are working toward nonprofit status to expand these dialogues.
Through BHCS and Foster Horizon, I've seen how parks and recreation programs can bridge cultures and generations—but also where gaps remain. I believe there is tremendous potential to foster deeper connection across all residents.
If selected, I hope to contribute by:
1. Building Bridges: Encouraging broader participation from diverse communities and ensuring all residents feel represented.
2. Applying Data Thoughtfully: Using analytical skills to assess programs and ensure efficient, equitable use of funds.
3. Strengthening Engagement: Developing creative programs and outreach that bring families, youth, and seniors together.
4. Supporting Seniors: Drawing on my family's experience—my mother actively participates in local senior programs—to advocate for accessible, culturally inclusive offerings. I'm particularly focused on our growing senior immigrant population, whose unique perspectives and communication needs deserve to be heard and understood.
I bring strategic skills, community leadership, and genuine passion for making Foster City better for all families. I believe in listening first, collaborating broadly, and making thoughtful, community-centered decisions.
It would be an honor to serve and contribute to the continued excellence and inclusivity of Foster City's parks and recreation programs. Thank you for your consideration. 5/5

It would be a great honor to serve the Foster City community as a board member of this committee. At a time when more diverse viewpoints are needed, I believe I can bring a distinct voice and a new perspective to the committee as a racial minority and a person with a visible disability. Helping my local. communities has always been a passion of mine --- from volunteering at my congregation growing up to my various job experiences (Congresswoman Jackie Speier’s office, Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities, and CA Department of Rehabilitation, GSPP Alumni Board). These opportunities have allowed me to interact with strangers from various walks of life (class, race, disability) see what concerns need to be addressed that I would not have been exposed to otherwise. I believe this insight will be valuable on this city committee of Foster City as it has consistently helped me think of fresh ideas that I can bring to the public-policy making world to positively affect people’s daily lives.
As a proud resident of Foster City for 30-years, I am aware of the issues and promise that this city has. The public policy skills I have gained throughout the years have helped connect with local residents and problem-solve in a timely manner. I have always interacted with populations that hold different viewpoints and not afraid of difficult conversations. I believe it’s important to represent all constituents. If selected to the committee, it would be a privilege to work with fellow board policy-makers to address the challenges that lie ahead and help strengthen this amazing city. Thank you for your time and consideration!

Objectives
Please state reasons and objectives for desiring to become a member of this committee/commission I’m interested in joining the Foster City Parks and Recreation Committee because I believe strongly that public spaces and inclusive recreational programs are essential to building a connected, healthy community.
As a long-time resident, I’ve seen firsthand how valuable our parks are (having rented spaces several times), how the events bring the committee together, and how recreational opportunities engage people of all ages, and I want to play a more active role in shaping those experiences.
I’m particularly drawn to the committee’s role in representing citizen interests, making our community more vibrant, and advising on long-term planning and policy. I’m ready to contribute and volunteer time by listening to the community, promoting engagement, and supporting city priorities through thoughtful recommendations.
Joining this committee is a meaningful way for me to give back to Foster City, and an exciting time with the new Rec center coming up, and help ensure our public spaces continue to evolve in ways that reflect the needs and values of our residents.

Objectives
Please state reasons and objectives for desiring to become a member of this committee/commission As a parent of two young children, and as frequent attendees of numerous local camps and recreational classes, I have seen the impact that these programs have on our families and how they build engagement and connection. I am so happy to be living back in Foster City, and want to get back into local community governance to give back to this great city that has made me feel so welcomed over the years. I have years of former event planning and volunteering experience, and I hope to bring some of this experience to the committee to brainstorm new and exciting ways that we can continue to engage Foster City residents through fun events and classes, and to help residence see the many reasons why we should all be so excited for the opportunity that the new Parks and Recreation facility will bring to our city.

As a proud resident of Foster City and a passionate advocate for community engagement, I am eager to serve on the Parks and Recreation Committee to contribute to the continued growth, vitality, and inclusiveness of our city’s recreational spaces. I believe that parks are the heart of a community and I would be honored to help shape the future of these cherished spaces for all residents.
Having served on the Foster City Audit Committee, I have developed a first-hand understanding of how City committees function, how priorities are balanced with fiscal responsibility, and how thoughtful collaboration between residents and the City Council can drive meaningful impact. This experience has deepened my appreciation for local governance and strengthened my commitment to contributing more actively to our city’s goals.
As a parent of two young children, my family and I are regular users of Foster City’s parks, playgrounds, and recreational programs. Our parks are an integral part of the Foster City identity, and I am passionate about ensuring that they continue to evolve in ways that meet the diverse needs of our growing community.
Professionally, as a software engineering leader, I have spent over a decade leading cross-functional teams, solving complex problems, and driving strategic initiatives with measurable outcomes. These skills — collaboration, analytical thinking, and goal- oriented execution — are directly transferable to committee work, where balancing community needs, resources, and long-term planning is essential.
Beyond my professional and civic roles, I am deeply motivated by service. I actively volunteer with Hears for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that focuses on giving back to underprivileged communities, and I also mentor military veterans to help them transition into technology careers. These experiences have shaped my belief that community service, in all its forms, strengthens both individuals and society.
If given the opportunity to serve on the Parks and Recreation Committee, my objectives would be to advocate for inclusive, safe, and accessible parks and programs that meet the needs of residents across all age groups and abilities.
I am deeply proud to call this city my home and would be honored to contribute to shaping the parks and recreation programs that bring joy, connection, and vitality to our community.
