I bring a combination of technical expertise, public service experience, and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset that makes me well-suited to serve on the Foster City Planning Commission. Having lived in Foster City for over two decades, I have a deep, personal understanding of the community’s character, growth, and evolving needs, which informs my commitment to its thoughtful and sustainable development.
Through my academic and professional background in information systems and innovation, I have developed strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate complex information, weigh trade-offs, and make informed decisions. These skills are directly applicable to reviewing planning documents such as General Plan amendments, environmental reports, and development proposals, where thoughtful consideration of long-term community impact is essential. My experience developing strategic plans, particularly those involving emerging technologies and data governance, has strengthened my ability to think both systemically and at the implementation level.
My work in public service has reinforced my commitment to community-centered decision- making and accountability. I understand the importance of transparency, ethical responsibility, and balancing diverse stakeholder perspectives when shaping policies that affect residents’ daily lives. In addition, my commission as a Notary Public reflects a strong attention to detail, integrity, and adherence to established procedures, qualities that are essential in quasi-judicial roles such as the Planning Commission. This foundation aligns closely with the Commission’s responsibility to fairly and thoughtfully evaluate land use and development matters.
As a University Innovation Fellow, I received training in design thinking, a human-centered, problem-focused approach to solution development. This experience emphasized deep listening, defining root problems, ideating creative solutions, and iterating based on feedback. I bring this mindset to planning work by focusing not just on regulatory compliance, but on how proposed developments truly serve community needs, enhance livability, and create long-term value for residents.
In my role as Innovation Center Manager at Menlo College, I regularly coordinate across diverse groups, including students, faculty, and external partners. This has required me to facilitate discussions, navigate competing priorities, and ensure inclusive participation. I am particularly skilled at translating complex or technical concepts into accessible language, which supports transparency and meaningful public engagement.
Additionally, my experience as a Peer Support Coordinator reflects my commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. I have created and facilitated environments that support individuals with diverse needs, reinforcing my understanding of how planning decisions impact different populations and the importance of equity in community development.
I also bring hands-on experience with CAD drafting and building information modeling tools such as Revit, along with the ability to interpret architectural drawings, site plans, and design documents. This technical background allows me to more effectively evaluate development proposals, understand design intent, and assess how projects translate from plans into real- world outcomes, including usability, scale, and neighborhood compatibility.
My background managing programs and organizing events has further strengthened my ability to assess spatial use, functionality, and user experience—perspectives that are valuable when reviewing site plans and land use proposals. I approach these evaluations with an emphasis on practicality, sustainability, and overall community benefit .
