CONSIDERATION OF OPTIONS FOR THE UNOPPOSED CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 2 ELECTION SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 3, 2026
Councilmember Jimenez recused herself in an abundance of caution as the decisions made at this meeting has a direct influence on her position as the sole nominated candidate to the District 2 City Council seat.
Communications Director/City Clerk Schaus presented the staff report.
Discussion ensued.
Motion by Mayor Kiesel, seconded by Vice Mayor Niederhofer, and failed, 2-2-0, Councilmember Sullivan and Councilmember Venkat voted “no,” to adopt “A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Foster City, Approving the Appointment of Stacy Jimenez, the Sole Nominated Candidate to the District 2 City Council Seat for the November 3, 2026 General Municipal Election Pursuant to Elections Code Section 10229.” Due to the City Council not taking action to appoint the sole candidate by the 75th day before the election, August 20, Elections Code 10229 states that the election will be held for both Districts 1 and 2. This would allow the opportunity for write-in candidates.

Hearing no objection from the City Council/EMID Board, Mayor/President Kiesel adjourned the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
