Background Information:
Why do you wish to serve as a member of this Board or Commission:
I moved to Fremont, from Palo Alto, 1.5 years ago and have been extremely impressed by the services that Fremont provides to its senior community. I feel that Fremont is leaps and bounds ahead of other communities in the breadth and depth of services it provides, and I would like to be a part of this commission, which is working to make life better for what I believe to be an often-ignored population.
Since leaving my position as the Director of Advancement, and before that, the Head of Marketing and Strategy, for a non-profit focusing on closing the opportunity gap for low- income middle school students, I find myself increasingly drawn to working with and on behalf. of seniors. This is in part due to the challenges and opportunities I see being faced by my 87: ** year-old parents, and my friends' parents, as they age. This is a cause that has become near and dear to my heart.
I am currently a member of the leadership team, a Board Member, as well as a Volunteer Caller for Friendly Voices, a non-profit organization that creates a vital human connection for isolated, low-income seniors age 60+ through weekly phone conversation with trained volunteers. I love what I do! I also thrive on reaching out to community members and other organizations/agencies to understand their needs and would welcome the opportunity to help identify needs and build upon the services Fremont provides for its older adults. There are several action areas that I would look forward to working on, including: community information and inclusion, the Cri-City Elder Coalition (TCED, and the Age-Friendly Action Plan What would you bring by way of perspective or experience to this Board or Commission:
I have a logical, analytical thought process, marketing mindset and think strategically. I am empathetic and have growing knowledge about the needs and issues of seniors, especially with regards to issues of loneliness and isolation.
I believe that my experience with Friendly Voices, as a member of the leadership team (responsible for strategic partnerships), a Board member, and a caller to several buddies, provides me with an understanding of issues facing seniors in our community. I have many years of experience as a management consultant in the areas of strategy and marketing. I also bring experience in grant writing and development, having worked with several Bay Area nonprofits, which will be of benefit to the Senior Commission as they make and review community grants.
