VICE MAYOR KENG REFERRAL: City Council consideration of a Lunar New Year City of Fremont paid holiday commencing in 2024.
Lunar New Year is an important part of the culture of and is celebrated by many City of Fremont residents. The Lunar New Year celebration begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar. The dates of the holiday vary from year to year, and can occur between January 21 and February 20.
Vice Mayor Keng requests that the City Council direct City staff to analyze methodology, summarize potential expenses, review meet and confer obligations, and present for Council consideration the recognition and celebration of the first day of the Lunar New Year celebration as a paid City of Fremont holiday commencing on or near the date of February 10, 2024 and thereafter.
