Background Information:-

Why do you wish to serve as a member of this Board or Commission:

I am a life-long library advocate and have lived in Fremont since 1975, starting as a senior at Washington High School in 1975, through my adulthood, raising a family, and working a career as Children’s Services Librarian until my retirement in September 2021. I have dedicated my life to providing library services, programming, and community outreach for families and children, both professionally and as private citizen. I served on the Fremont Library Advisory Commission from 1988 to 1991 while I was a graduate student in Library and Information Science at San Jose State University. Now that I am retired, I would be honored to serve again on the Library Advisory Commission. By serving on the Library Advisory Commission, I would be able to serve my community with the skills and outlook of a librarian. And, personally, being of service into my retirement has always been an ultimate goal for me. ____________________________________________________________________________

What would you bring by way of perspective or experience to this Board or Commission :

I have worked or volunteered for libraries for my entire adult life and have lived in Fremont for 48 years. I have raised my children in Fremont and now have grandchildren who live and go to school in Fremont. In my capacity as librarian, I served as a union steward and as Assistant Chief Library Steward for SEIU 521 and worked on negotiations and planning with library management. In addition, I founded and directed the California Indian Storytelling Association, a non-profit, from 1995 to 2015. I wrote a book on the Ohlone Indians and worked on local history research. The research and writing of the book, The Coastanon/Ohlone Indians of the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Area: A Research Guide, lead me to gain a unique perspective on my community and its history. ____________________________________________________________________________
