MAYOR MEI REFERRAL: Designation of League of California Cities Annual Conference Voting Delegate and Alternate.
Consistent with the League bylaws, a City’s voting delegate must be designated by the City Council. The City Council may also appoint up to two alternate voting delegates, on e of whom may vote in the event that the designated voting delegate is unable to serve in that capacity. The League’s bylaws now require that designating the voting delegate and alternates must be done by City Council action and cannot be accomplished by i ndividual action of the mayor or city manager alone.
The League’s 2023 Annual Conference is scheduled for September 20-22, 2023, and an important part of the Annual Conference is the Annual Business Meeting, scheduled for Friday, September 22. At this meeting, the League membership considers and takes action on resolutions that establish League policy. To remain consistent with League bylaws, I am recommending appointing Mayor Mei as the City’s voting delegate and Councilmember Salwan as the voting alternate.
RECOMMENDATION: By motion, appoint Mayor Mei as the City’s voting delegate for the League of California Cities Annual Conference and Councilmember Salwan as the voting alternate.
