The 2024 Pedestrian Crossing Enhancement Project will implement pedestrian crosswalk safety improvements, including pedestrian flashing beacons, ADA curb ramps, refuge islands, bulb outs, pavement slurry, and striping, at 8 crossing locations along Fremont Boulevard and Paseo Padre Parkway. The crossing locations were selected based on documented crash history and potential for vehicle/pedestrian/bicyclist conflict. The project objectives include increasing visibility, access, safety, and perceived comfort for pedestrians and bicyclists crossing at uncontrolled crossings, ultimately connect users to neighborhood schools, parks, commercial destinations, and transit stops. The Project scope strongly supports the goals and actions identified in the City’s Pedestrian Master Plan, Vision Zero Action Plan, and Mobility Action Plan.
