Background Information:

Why do you wish to serve as a member of this Board or Commission:

I admit to maintaining a lifelong interest in the history of whatever community I live in, and well over twenty years in the city of Fremont has given me an appreciation and passion for the city's with an eye towards education, appreciation, and the future needs of the residents and businesses here in the city, and I believe my experience can be of service in this regard.

What would you bring by way of perspective or experience to this Board or Commission:

I have immersed myself in the issues surrounding the historical architecture of Fremont for the last 10 years or so, including CEQA, the Historical Architectural Review process, Historic Resource municipal codes, Planning Commission process, Environmental Impact Reports, and the General Plan. I can offer the city my unique educational background and decades of experience as a designer and a visual artist with an aesthetic vision that would prove a valuable addition to the outlook of the board. I have a good understanding of blueprints and building plans, and a familiarity with the survey of historical structures throughout the city and their political, environmental, and historical contexts, past and present.

Organization: Protect Niles Dates: 2015 - present
Location: Fremont Position(s): Community organizer
Responsibilities/accomplishments: Protect Niles formed as a community group comprised of 9 raised $30K to fund a lawsuit requiring a CEQA- compliant Environmental Impact Report on the Henkel Property/Niles Gateway development. The group worked to raise awareness of the development issues throughout Fremont with a focus on the Niles downtown HOD. After years of litigation, we succeeded in winning the lawsuit and the subsequent appeal by the developer in the Court of Appeals, resulting in an EIR and moving oward a better development to benefit the surrounding community.

Our organization brought together wide swaths of the community to actively comment upon the draft EIR for the Gateway project, and produced a series of responses to be included in the public record regarding the same. Protect Niles has worked with and spoken for community groups in Walnut/Guardino, Irvington (Cloverleaf Bowl), Mission Heights, and others in support of their battles to retain their community character and neighborhood integnty in the face of the ongoing development issues facing our city.

Organization: Niles for Environmentally Safe Trains Dates: 2016 - present Location: Fremont Position(s): community organizer
Responsibilities/accomplishments: Niles for Environmentally Safe Trains (NEST) formed as a response to the ACEforward proposal to drastically increase freight traffic through Niles Canyon and District 4. NEST brought together the talents of activists and legal experts to form a cohesive understanding of these complex issues, We worked to publicize the issues, through printed pieces, websites, and community town hall meetings designed to inform and mobilize the community to discussions and to comment on official documentation including the ACE EIR.

We spoke before the city goverments of Fremont, Sunol, and at the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to relay the concems of the community and offer constructive criticism.
