Background Information:
Why do you wish to serve as a member of this Board or Commission:
I want to serve on the Library Advisory Commission because the Fremont Main Library has been an important place in my life, and I feel a strong responsibility and passion to give back.
The kid’s section at the Main Library was my favorite place in the library growing up. Every weekend, my family and I would go to the library so I could browse the shelves, stack up picture books, and sit in a corner to read, then check out all the ones I didn't get to. It was a safe space for me that was quiet, welcoming, and full of possibilities. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that my experience at the library wasn’t just about the books, it was also about having a safe, public place where I could be curious and feel supported.
I see how many other students in Fremont rely on the library in similar ways whether it’s for a quiet place to study, using technology they need, or just having a safe place to be after school.
Additionally, my interest in educational equity and childhood learning has also made me aware of how powerful libraries are for giving kids, regardless of background, an opportunity to learn and grow. Serving on this Commission is meaningful to me because it connects my own personal experience with the Fremont Main Library with a chance to support other families and students in my community. I want to be a part of protecting and strengthening a place that has shaped who I am and that is an essential part of so many people’s lives.
What would you bring by way of perspective or experience to this Board or Commission:
To the Library Advisory Commission, I would bring the perspective of a current Fremont student who is already deeply involved in community service, youth leadership, and education-focused work, along with hands-on experience in the library itself. As an Interact officer and Area 7 treasurer, I’ve helped plan and run service events that respond to local and global issues, from raising awareness to organizing fundraisers. That role has taught me how to listen to community needs, collaborate with adults and peers, manage details like budgeting and logistics, and follow through on projects that actually serve people. At the Fremont Main Library, my work as a Homework Help Center volunteer has given me direct experience with the students and families who rely on library services. I see up close how important free academic support, welcoming spaces, and access to resources are for kids at different grade levels and from different backgrounds.
I have developed my skills as a marketing intern for a start up, learning how to communicate clearly, use data and feedback to improve ideas, and think about how to reach and engage a targeted audience. These are skills that translate well into serving on the Library Advisory Commission. Additionally, my experience with planning important events for my volleyball team like senior night and Dig Pink, a yearly game hosted to fundraise and advocate for breast cancer awareness, have built my organization, coordination, and teamwork skills. Overall, I bring a perspective grounded in justice and equity, a genuine love for literature, and real experience of turning ideas into action. I would use my experiences and point of view to advise for library services that are inclusive and responsive to the diverse communities in Fremont.
