Background Information:
Why do you wish to serve as a member of this Board or Commission:
I have been a Fremont resident since 2011 and my husband has been a resident since childhood. We have always valued Fremont as the city where we wanted to bring up our family. Our children (son is now 20 years old and daughter is high school senior at Irvington High School (IHS)) have been part of FUSD since first grade. We cherish the city and our neighborhood and appreciate Fremont for the high standard of living. Until now, I took care of my family and my career, and now I am available to contribute to the success Fremont has and engage with others in our community.
What would you bring by way of perspective or experience to this Board or Commission:
One of my biggest passions is to volunteer and support our communities. I am a relationship builder with sturdy business background, problem solver, ready to drive change. I take time to learn, to see the bigger picture, and offer support and solutions. Here are few examples of my impact to the communities I participate in:
In my Board of Director role at Sunnyvale Community Center (SCS), an organization focused on preventing homelessness and hunger, I directly impact the community by collecting funds through fundraising, offering my organizational and analytical skills to manage the budget, and I am hands-on and do grocery packing and hand out to clients.
As an engaged parent, I have been supporting FUSD for many years through volunteering in PTA, PTSA and in classrooms. I am the parent who stands at the sidelines and cheers on the teams but I am also interested to drive change and create a better experience for our students. I became President of the Irvington High School Booster Club right after Covid where the program had to be revived. By engaging with the athletic directors, principal and coaches, we were able to increase the membership, introduced a regular newsletter to keep parents and students up-to-date, established a social media online presence, and have collected $10k per year to buy equipment and uniforms for IHS athletes.
In my professional career, I am a director at NetApp, an intelligent data management company, located in San Jose. In addition to my day job, I am supporting multiple efforts in the company to create professional and personal growth opportunities for women and allies. I organize in-person events and webinars. I collaborate across the industry with other companies and organizations such as Silicon Valley Leadership Group to mentor students from Community and State colleges. Exposing the students to the business environments is rewarding and supports their growth and curiosity as to what is next after college.
I am also a mentor to students and women and I am especially interested to give back the support I have received when I started in my career.
As an engaged citizen following the developments of our city and state/country wide, I see many opportunities to contribute my skills to support City of Fremont.
