Why do you wish to serve as a member of this Board or Commission? I have called the City of Fremont home for my entire life. While many friends and families that I grew up with have left, my husband and I have decided to stay and build our lives here. Though our city has its challenges, the diversity, economic opportunity, and kind & caring community keep us deeply rooted here.
Over the past several years, driven by a desire to do good in the world in which we live, I have been a highly active member of my community. I have been involved in Rotary since 2018, having served as President of the Rotary Club of Mission San Jose from 2022-2024.
I serve on the City of Fremont's Police Chief's Citizens Advisory Committee to represent and share issues affecting the LGBTQ+ Community. A lover of the arts, I served as the Development Chair and a Board Member for Music at the Mission from 2020-2022, a local chamber music concert series.
A supporter of our local public school system, I serve as the Managing Consultant for Support Fremont Schools —a pro bono position leading the committee that supports critical ballot measures to improve Fremont's award-winning public schools.
And as one who believes in access to wellness and healthcare for all, I serve on the Board of Directors for Washington Health Foundation-the charitable supporting organization for the largest public healthcare system in Southern Alameda County encompassing Fremont, Newark, Union City, and South Hayward.
What would you bring by way of perspective or experience to this Board or Commission?
I have been very active in local government for the past ten years through advocacy, attendance, and participation in committees, work groups, and serving in appointed roles. I currently serve on the Alameda County Advisory Commission on Aging-which advises the Alameda County Board of Supervisors on issues affecting older adults.
Additionally, I have been advocating for LGBTQ+ rights issues since 2008, when the passage of Proposition 8 banned same-sex marriage. While marriage equality is now the law of the land, many new and existing issues continue to negatively affect the LGBTQ+ Community, and my advocacy remains steadfast. My efforts over the past 18 years have become well known and were recognized on the floor of the California State Legislature in 2023.
My deep understanding of local government and its processes, combined lived and professional experiences and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ Community, as well as the Older Adult Community, bring great opportunity for new perspectives on the Human Relations Commission.
