Mobility Commission
Supplemental Questionnaire
(feel free to attach separate pages or a resume)
Interest Information:

Why do you wish to serve as a member of the Mobility Commission:

I'm a "power user" of Fremont's cycling infrastructure. I navigate our streets daily and have. firsthand experience with the challenges facing those on bikes or on foot. In serving the commission, my goal is to provide practical feedback about Fremont's Mobility Action Plan from a cyclist's perspective.

My use of Fremont's cycling infrastructure - as a BART-dependent commuter, as a local- workplace cyclist, or as a weekend rider along Paseo Padre or the Alameda Creek Trail - gives me a unique perspective of how different places connect (or don't).

Having followed the progress of the Mobility Action Plan over the last five years, I want to contribute to the next phase of its implementation. If selected, I'd advocate for safer, more accessible cycling options that connect places, which, in turn, become part of a sustainable transportation network for all residents.

What would you bring by way of perspective or expertise to the Mobility Commission (in general and related to your selected travel mode interest area:

Not only do I have the lived experience of cycling in and through Fremont, but I also hold a Google Data Analytics certificate. I think could add value to what I imagine is at times a very data-driven process: traffic and infrastructure usage analysis.

In addition, my core professional skill - technical writing - involves translating complex jargon into clear, actionable information. As such, I think I can help the Commission with its education and outreach goal by helping craft messaging that is clear and accessible to all residents. -4-
Employment/Volunteer Information:

Please list any qualifications you feel would provide positive input to the work of the Mobility Commission. Describe your abilities and experiences with leading groups and inspiring action:

Organization: Multiple Sclerosis Society - MS150 ride
Location: Kansas City
Position(s): Team Organizer
Responsibilities/accomplishments:

Over the course of a decade, I built a team of 5 riders into 200, becoming a top fundraiser along the way. (It's during this time when I became a capital-c Cyclist.) This involved project management and logistical responsibilities like:
• Organizing gatherings to drive rider signup
• Designing and ordering team uniforms
• Communicate and coordinate with MS150 staff
Organization: Lucid Motors
Location: Newark, CA
Position(s): Technical Publication Manager
Responsibilities/accomplishments:

As Lucid's TechPubs Manager, I set the course for Lucid's Technical Publication department and then hired and developed the diverse group needed to implement that vision.

Along with the role leading our Kansas City Bike MS team, the experience at Lucid left me with valuable project and people management skills which I'd leverage when collaborating with Mobility Commission (and City Council) peers.

Special awards or recognitions you have received:

Additional Information (Please provide any other information which you feel would be useful to the City Council in reviewing your application)
I've now lived in multiple Fremont neighborhoods, and this has provided valuable insight about how Fremont's infrastructure serves residents in different stages of life. I'm committed to leveraging my professional background and passion for cycling to help create a more connected and accessible community.

Oh, and if appointed, one of my first "unofficial" contribution would be to suggest (and help) transition this application into a fully digital, fillable format. Yes, it's part of a career-long obsession (curse?) over things like this, but it does serve a larger goal: ensuring that civic participation is as frictionless and user-friendly as the modern transportation network Fremont is striving to build. Thanks for considering my application. -5-

Fremont

Supplemental Questionnaire
(feel free to attach separate pages or a resume)
Interest Information:

Why do you wish to serve as a member of the Mobility Commission: I wish to serve as a member of the Mobility Commission because I care about Fremont and want all people to be able to get around safely, no matter their mode of transportation. I love that Fremont strives to be an inclusive community that values safety, sustainability, health, happiness, & inclusivity, and I appreciate how those values have shaped our current systems. Having regularly attended Mobility Commision meetings fairly consistently over the past 3-4 years, I wish to now contribute in a more official capacity.

What would you bring by way of perspective or expertise to the Mobility Commission (in general and related to your selected travel mode interest area:

I consider myself a product of the Mobility Commission and the City of Fremont's success when it comes to building infrastructure that encourages active transportation: I began bicycling as an adult in summer 2022 because I was curious about Fremont's expanding bike infrastructure, and I thought it would be a healthy and affordable way to get around. Since then, bicycling has become a significant part of my life and my favorite mode of transportation around Fremont. I hope that over time and with continued improvements, more people can experience and appreciate the benefits of active transportation. Besides my personal experience of bicycling in Fremont, I would bring a strong education and safety perspective to the Mobility Commission. 1 am an LCI, an instructor certified through the League of American Bicyclists to teach bicycle riding and safety. I understand the concerns that people have about our streets and what would increase their sense of safety and confidence.

In addition to my perspective as a bicyclist, I live with my 91-years-old grandmother who has a disability, and I have worked with seniors in assisted living here in Fremont. I have a lot of empathy for the concerns of those who do not or cannot bike and how important transportation is for maintaining independence, especially for older adults. I think this perspective will be valuable as well given Fremont's demographics. -4-

Additional Information (Please provide any other information which you feel would be useful to the City Council in reviewing your application)
Having been born and raised in Fremont, I have a deep love and commitment for this city and community. I am grateful that Fremont has made it so easy for me to get around safely by bike, because it really has transformed my life for the better. I believe my perspective as a bicyclist, driver, and person who lives with a senior with a disability gives me an enthusiasm, empathy, and practicality that will serve the Mobility Commission well. I have already been active in the Mobility Commission as a member of the public and through my participation in two of its ad hoc committees, so i am familiar with the way the Mobility Commission works. I am mostly looking to continue supporting the Mobility Commission's efforts and keep Fremont on the path toward Vision Zero. Fremont has been a great leader in this regard, and I hope to see it continue. -7-
