Greetings,
I am a master craftsman with over 40 years of experience working with tile and stone. My work combines technical expertise with a unique artistic vision to create fluid, colorful tile mosaics, one piece at a time. do mostly large-scale public installations, and also create custom smaller-scale work for both interior and exterior display. I am fully licensed (CA lic #1000248), insured, and bonded.
I think the wing walls at the Centerville Community Park offer a wonderful opportunity to tell a twelve-part story through large-scale mosaics. My proposal is to create a "giant picture book" consisting of 12 individual mosaic panels, one for each side of the wing walls.
By utilizing the blank wall as negative space, each mosaic will achieve a strong visual impact without requiring full coverage. This approach ensures the project remains scalable in terms of both size and budget. Each mosaic would be like a page in a book, designed to be viewed both individually and collectively.
Potential themes include:
- Local Nature: A montage of life along a flowing stream, featuring local flora and wildlife which could have sub themes such as the life cycle of the monarch butterfly or frogs.
- Chronological or Spatial Progression: A series of images zooming in from a cosmic scale down to a microscopic level.
The final installation will be child-friendly, interactive, and educational.
I have enclosed images of previous mosaics that utilize negative space, along with some very preliminary sketches for scale and reference. These sketches represent approximately 15 to 20 square feet of coverage per panel, roughly one-third of the total surface area of each wall.
I can create and install 12 mosaics this size for $48,000. This includes all costs for design, labor and materials.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Juan Lopez
