SUMMER GASTON-GEHRIS
WHEREAS, Summer Gaston-Gehris is a graduate of Bullard High School. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Liberal Studies from Fresno State and a Master of Science Degree in Educational Administration from National University; and
WHEREAS, Summer Gaston-Gehris comes from a three generation family of educators, her late uncle Rutherford B. Gaston was the first African American Administrator in Fresno Unified School District breaking the color line. Her Father is a retired educator of 25 years in FUSD as a math teacher; and
WHEREAS, Summer Gaston -Gehris has been working in the Fresno Unified School District for over 22 years, with 15 of those years as a classroom teacher at Easterby, Viking and Phoenix Elementary Schools and 7 years as an Administrator; and
WHEREAS, Summer Gaston-Gehris is a wife and a mother to three beautiful school aged children; and
WHEREAS, Summer Gaston-Gehris serves the community in many capacities such as the Black Student Union Advisor. She champions for African American Youth and high-risk students and a volunteer where she attends Cross City Church; and
WHEREAS, Summer Gaston -Gehris has and continues to serve for eight years on the honorable Dr. Reverend Martin Luther King Unity Committee for the City of Fresno. She ensures that youth from FUSD are able to participate in the weekend celebrations honoring King every year. In addition , Summer is a judge for the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Martin Luther King’s Annual Essay Contest; and
WHEREAS, Summer Gaston-Gehris is the highly commended and newly appointed principal at Dr. Martin Luther King Elementary School; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, Mayor Jerry Dyer, and the Fresno City Council, do hereby congratulate and proclaim February 17, 2022, to be:
“SUMMER GASTON-GEHRIS DAY”
in the City of Fresno.
